Pet peeve of the moment

Instead of “I haven’t”, using “I’ve not”.  For example: “I’ve not seen Spiderman 3 yet.”

I guess it’s still a technically correct thing to say, so I don’t know why this bugs me so much.  Maybe it’s because it makes me feel like the writer/speaker is trying to sound pretentious.

  1. Hmmm. I can see using it if the difference makes the metrics of the sentence work better, but honestly 99.99999% of the time that doesn’t matter for shit.

Now I want to write a poem that uses “I’ve Not” in a place where “I haven’t” won’t fit. Hmmm…now I just need a subject for my work…maybe jerking off in public? No…how about mowing the lawn?

Damn it! Now I have to get working on it.
